Artist Statement

With my mom being a portrait painter and my Dad in the furniture business I was exposed to an appreciation for art at a young age. Having parents that both pursued creative professions I have felt that it is in my blood to create beautiful things for peoples homes. My pots bring beauty to the table so that people can enjoy an occasion with the same sensations with which they might enjoy a beautiful painting or piece of furniture.
I believe in beauty. I have found it to be so relative that the most ordinary object can appear beautiful to someone and go unnoticed by another. This is interesting to me as I seek to satisfy what my eye finds beautiful. Clay can take on so many different forms that the possibilities are endless.
The deep history of ceramics in England has been an inspiration for a long time. I love the way the forms are so intricate and yet function is of utmost importance. Memories of my grandmother’s china being such a prized possession and now seeing it in my Mom’s china cabinet have made me want to bring that same element of beauty to every piece. The intricate details of English China mixed with a modern touch of design are inspirations that I am working with. Vintage and modern fabric patterns and furniture styles continue to inspire patterns to bring into the rich history of fine china.
My goal in this body of work is to use these inspirations to create functional pieces that represent historical values as well as good design elements for the present time. They are meant for special occasions that bring people together and encourage endless conversations as well as being enjoyed in the quiet moments.
