So glad to read another posting by you!!! I have really gained a lot as an artist while taking your class at BMCA the last 6 weeks. We talked about a lot more than techniques and glaze problems. I think you've stimulated my creativity in ways that will influence my craft for a long time. I hope you keep teaching, so others can benefit in much the same way. It's like you're a gardner, not a production potter. You are raising the wonderful children of your family, but your class was also like seeds you've planted. When you make pottery that's true to your own nature, again you are showing the blossoms of yourself.

HI Annie,

Nice of you to ask my thoughts on your recent blog post. I have been there many times asking myself the same sort of questions. It seems to me that when I stared selling work 10 years ago so much has changed so quickly. The internet has become so important as well as networking ( oh how I hate that word) with other potters to sell work that so many factors play a big role in finding one's "niche". Now that I look back on cranking work out and just trying to make money , I think I would have done things a little diffearntly. I would have spent more time on my pots and finding my own voice a bit more before putting myself out there so much. I did alot of self promotion with just cold calling galliers. Wholesale galleries where my biggest clients when I had really young kids. I didn't start doing retail shows until all my children started school. Now I'm back to wholesale accounts because the kids need to me home. Everything I've done has had to coincide with my Mom duties and these days that really does take first priority. I'm lucky I have teaching jobs to help with our income and I'm spending more time making less work and better work.
Good luck with motherhood and potting. No one but those of us who do both day in and day out realy understand the push and pull of both jobs that mean the world to us!
Take care, Jen Mecca

Oh boy. Good job on the self critique, that is such a great place to start fresh! The best answer I can offer is to start trying to be seen in as many different places by as many different people as possible, and then narrow it down from there. Your pots have always been rather sophisticated, so you may want that to be in your awareness when seeking venues.
I started with etsy and a few other art ecommerce sites, Really as many as I could find, started actively blogging, facebooking, and keeping up with my portfolio site, and then also placed my work in a highly visible local marketplace( Woolworth) and tried a few local shows. The Internet is key in terms of visibility, and finding galleries that your work would be suitable for. I gave everything time limits, usually 6 months, and scrap things that don't work! Shows ended up being a waste of valuable time for me, so if I do one now it's for entertainment only! Good luck lady!! Go get em!

Thank you for your entire labor on this site. My mom take interest in conducting research and it's easy to understand why. Most people know all of the compelling way you render precious information through the website and as well boost participation from website visitors about this theme then my simple princess is actually being taught a lot of things. Enjoy the rest of the new year. Your conducting a splendid job.
